Dining Room Up do

I recently mentioned that we redid our dining room. Well, actually, I am still dreaming of that, but I did give it an up do recently. 

Even though we do not use our dining room like I wished we did, it actually is my play room. I enjoying coming in here and moving things around and creating new vignettes. 

Currently, it has a woodsey feel with my collection of Peter's Pottery animals, my mother-in-law's twisted branches from her yard, monogram linens, and moss covered faux rocks. 

I like to mix textures with ribbon, bird's nests, and pears. 

Of course, what is a Southern dining room with out some burlap and a monogram?

A Little Bit of Fall is in the Air ...

Happy Halloween! 

May you be careful, eat lots of candies, avoid cavities, and be prepared to face goblins and ghosts! 

If you come by our house, we are pretending no one is home. :)

I will take happies to the neighbor kids and then turn our lights off and devour the rest of the candy that we saved for ourselves. 

I heard that if you eat candy in the dark, there are no calories. 

I thought we will at least try it out and let you know.

Any hoos ...

Back in September, I told Ken that I was not decorating for fall. It was in a fit of exhaustion, and I was determined. 

Then October happened, the air turned cool and crisp, and I had energy. 

I am also woman, and I can change my mind anytime I want. 

So here it goes ...

I love that my fall decor is simple with a flair of whimsical. I love the blue with the orange, that I used everything that I already had, and that I made it fit in with my current decor.  

Now all I need to do is put some soup in that tureen and a sweet pie in that pie plate.

Rainwashed ...

 Rainwashed is a color that Brooke introduced me too, and I love it! It is so soothing and calm. We loved it so much in the living room, 

that we painted the hall …

I finally ran out before I could paint anything else. I do plan on getting more in the near future due to the hall needed another coat. Nothing like family coming and faking like the hall is painted. 

Face Lift ...

Our living room got a face lift this summer .

and, of course, had to graffiti the wall a little bit. 

It had been swirling around in my head for a while, and during a trip to Lowes, I finally revealed my plans to Ken. Our conversation went like this.

Me: I am thinking for the wall behind the TV, I want to do paneling. However, I want to turn horizontal so it looks like planks.

Ken: No, I am not doing that.

Me: Okay. (Which, at this point, I just stop talking)

Ken: (Which, at this point, Haven threw a fit.)

Just because we stop talking does not indicate a fit. Men are so dramatic.

Two days later, my sweet, understanding husband was unloading 4 sheets of paneling from his truck mumbling under his breath, “My wife is crazy.” Yea, that may be true, but you married me, so what does that make you? J

Recently, Lea Ann came to stalk my house, and my sweet, understanding husband announced, “ I really love that wall.”

He is learning to trust me. He really is!

I repainted, covering up the tan walls with Rainwashed bySherwin Williams. This color was brought to me by my friend, Brooke who has used this color over and over in the past couple of years. I love this color so much, I will give it a standing ovation in another post.

The trim was painted Woodlawn Dewkist by Valspar. It was leftover paint from my kitchen. I was all about using what I had.

Even though my husband said he was doing all the painting, I decided that part of my stay-at-home-housewife-duties was to do the painting myself. I am not a good painter, at all, meaning that I get more on myself than on what I am painting. I also have been known to drop a pan full of chocolate brown paint from the top of a ladder all over the carpet below. It is amazing what paint thinner could do with drenched chocolate covered carpet. Just ask Brooke. She can tell you all about it.

I digress. Just see for yourself what we did.

I do want to recover those red cushions when I get the nerve to get out my sewing machine again. 

I will explain how I did the Hudsonville sign in a separate post as well.

I love how my accessories really pops now with a new color! 

Still trying to decide whether or not to hang that "D"

Our living room is calming, relaxing, and soothing. 

Our house is slowly, but surely becoming more like the cottage style that we both like. 

Our next project will completed in the cold, winter months - the Dining Room! 

Got to space it out to let the husband rest. :)
