Say Its Not Sew ...

I have been wanting to make some pillows for my girly guest bedroom for quite some time now. That would involve a little sewing. I have a very small amount of sewing skills - like I can thread a needle and maybe sew a button type of skills. I do own a sewing machine, but I have to really psych myself up in order to get it out. Well, that day finally came last week, and I can honestly say that I am quite proud of myself and quite surprised. Through reading tutorials, watching YouTube, and just remembering the times I helped my mother, I did an okay job. You see, my mother is a very talented in the sewing department. She can smock, make beautiful dresses, and hem an outfit that she is wearing while riding down the road (I have witnessed this numerous times especially Christmas and Easter after making 3 dresses for her daughters and the one that she is hemming for herself). When I told her what I was doing and how I was doing it, she just laughed at me. I assured her that no one would be calling wanting me to make them some pillows! I like my pillows. I know they are not perfect. Yes, I want to improve my skills and have contemplated calling down to the Hancock Fabrics for some sewing classes. So maybe I will. So any ways here they are:

I made just a plain white pillow and used fabric glue to attach the yo-yo flowers. I found this tutorial for the flowers here.

I also think I will have to check myself in to the yo-yo anonymous due to the slight obsession with the yo-yo flowers.

I found a cute mini-tutorial for these pillows here. Notice, the yo-yos again. These really were easy to make. Cut fabric and thread a needle.

I plan on making some more pillows, of course, when I can psych myself up enough to get out the sewing machine.

  1. SO cute! Thanks for your sweet comment and for linking your pillows! How is the fabric glue working for holding the yo-yos on? I've kind of avoided yo-yos because of the idea of hand stitching them on! And I love your color combinations for both sets. :)
