Yo - Yo's!

Last summer, I began fiddling with making yo-yo flowers. By far, these are my favorite, but it does take a lot of time. If you are like me and can't sit for very long without looking for something to do, this is a great project to keep your hands busy. I like to make these when we go home to Mississippi.

What you will need ...

Fabric
Scissors
Needle
Thread
Circle Templates (I made these out of cardboard)

Turn your fabric right side down and trace your template ...

Cut out the circle ...

This is what you get ...

Next, thread your needle with coordinating thread. (I used a long enough piece of thread that I never changed it out.)

Leaving the right side out, fold down the edges and stitch.

Continue doing this around the whole circle. It does not have to be perfect. I would not be attempting this if it did!

When you finish going around the circle it will look like a little bowl ...

Pull the thread tight ...

And back stitch creating a knot ...

You can leave them plain or ...

embellish them with buttons to add texture for a whimsical look

There you have it!

I can't wait to see if any of you try this or any other ones I mentioned this week!
Please let me know what you think!

  1. Haven I love the fall colors and beautiful patterns on your yo-yo flowers. The wood button on the polka dot flower is fab!

    Have a great weekend!
